I don’t smoke (much) any more and frankly I love good food and beer too much to make too many promises on that front so what resolutions for this year?
Ages ago I stopped making ’stopping’ resolutions as you have to keep them up for the whole year, and started making ‘doing’ resolutions. They’re a lot more positive and you can give yourself a big pat on the back once you’ve done them. Much better.
I thought I’d split them up into the three areas of life that I think really matter: Work, health & family. Make sure you do one good thing in each of these areas and you should be in for a pretty good year.
Work
I could write a list as long as your arm for this, but with my online marketing agency just entering it’s second year I need to keep it focussed. We’ve already set some pretty stretching revenue targets for 2008, but my resolution is more about making sure I enjoy what I’m doing as we go along. I want to get at least one sports/fitness related client in 2008. There are two prospects on my doorstep being warmed up already, but if anyone out there wants an agency working on their business with real passion, give me a call!
Health
Setting up my own business has meant that staying in shape has often taken a back seat, something I managed to get in check in the last few months, but I need a bit more motivation, so I’m going to enter and complete at least one competitive sporting event this year. Current possibilities are
Family
As my wife is the other director of my business I’ve been able to see more of her this year than ever since we met. We don’t do the same things at all so we’re not under each other’s feet and it’s worked out really well. Quality time has been a bit thin on the ground at times though as we’ve both been working some pretty long hours, so that’s what I’m going to make a resolution about. Her birthday is mid Jan, so that’s when I can reveal what it’ll be.
Let me know what your own resolutions are and we’ll see this time next year what we’ve managed to achieve.
