I was just reading a post over at Loquax’s blog about forced clicks, and a comment from Dan Morley piqued my interest.
The post is about the use of iframes to drop cookies when the reader hasn’t actually clicked to the site.
My Voucher Codes . co. uk were shown as an example. Dan suggested that we dig into the ownership of the affiliate site, I’ll save you the bother, here are the whois results:
Domain name: myvouchercodes.co.uk Registrant: RosesbyDesign.co.uk 100 Woodcote Road Wallington Surrey SM6 0LY GB
If this means nothing to you,
Roses by design are a merchant with an indy programme, in turned run by Mark Pearson
Look what happens when you click through to the site after going to Mark’s affiliate website:

Yup, dirty great pop-up screen for the aff site, so not just one bite at the cherry, but two. drop the cookie, then get the customer data too.
Clean it up Mark, and stamp it out networks, if you don’t enforce your own rules……..go buy a few cycling magazines this year and see what’ll happen further down the road.
