The front page of today’s Financial Times carried a story about Google’s long term strategy of personalisation and improving their algorithm beyond just finding websites to providing proactive advice. There’s a talking head video talking more about it as well on the FT’s site
Interestingly enough, the example given was ‘what job should I take?’ A question which has already been asked and answered pretty inconclusively here on Google Answers
There are some pretty good examples around of sites that do great recommendations, Amazon being arguably the best, (although it does screw up quite badly when my wife buys DVD’s through my account!), the ability to place relevant adverts against content to provide more recommendations is pretty slick, but you have to ask yourself how far Google’s algorithm can go to answer questions that get a poor answer from humans.
Google Answers doesn’t contain any responses for the other example given, ‘What shoud I do this weekend?’Â
Maybe the readers of this blog can help out, it’s a bank holiday weekend after all.Â
